Pastor Robert Kemp

Pastor Robert Kemp was saved at the age of eight years old as a result of a bus ministry. Not able to go to church much in his youth, he started going at the age of 29, getting baptized, and trying to do whatever he could in the church. About three years after he got married, he told his wife of God's call on his life to be a pastor. From that point forward, he began to train under his pastor to follow that call. For eight years he ran a bus route at his church. Also during that time, he served in every ministry he possibly could, including being the Head Usher, Jr. Church leader, Teen Boys' Sunday School Teacher, Bus Mechanic, Deacon, Christian School Board Member, the Nursing Home Ministry, the Jail Ministry, Boys' Program leader, Midweek Children's Program leader, and Staff Member. After having four sons, God moved Pastor Kemp and his family to the U.P. of Michigan to pastor a mission church.

Old Fashioned Baptist Church was started by another Independent Baptist Church, and supported by several Independent Baptist Churches. Now, OFBC is a self-supporting church, working to further the cause of Christ. The church not being able to pay the pastor a full-time salary yet, Pastor Kemp holds a full time job as a mechanic. He is fondly known as "The Pastor with the dirty hands." He has a heart for his people, and desires to teach people how to be "Going Forward for God with our Families!"

His wife, Shannon, had the privilege of being raised in a Christian home. She was taught to be in church whenever the doors were open. She prayed for her husband daily from the time she was 12 years old, and at 18 before even meeting her husband, she began to pray for four boys that could sing (because she loves men's quartets). God graciously answered all of her prayer requests, and their four boys, Robert, Ryan, William, and Anthony are a huge blessing and help to their ministry.
